Virtual Labs - NoVNC Controls
You may hear this system referred to as Virtual Labs, Online Labs, vLabs, VMs, Virtual Machines or Proxmox.
This explains the different options that are available in the Web NoVNC Console for the Virtual Lab environment.
If you hover over an icon with your mouse a little description of the Icon will appear next to the cursor.
Always Available Options

Full Screen | Maximizes the lab Display to fit the entire screen. | |
Settings | Opens a Sub-Menu to access the Settings for the NoVNC Lab environment Console. | |
Power Options | Start, Resume, Shutdown, Restart, Sleep, etc |
Powered on Options
Icon | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
Hand Tool | Only available if the Screen resolution is too large for the screen you are using. This allows you to scroll around the screen as if you were swiping with a finger. | |
Mouse button | Only available on devices with touch screens. Otherwise disabled. | |
Show Keyboard | Shows a digital Keyboard. Only works in very specific instances. | |
Show Special Keys | Opens a Sub Menu to access Special Keys that may need to be pressed or may not be available on some Keyboards. This menu should not be needed if using a Laptop or Desktop with a full keyboard. Can be more useful when running the labs from a Mac. |
Settings Sub-Menu Options
Item | Description |
---|---|
View Only | When selected, the session becomes non-interactive. Not very applicable for our use case. |
Local Cursor | When Enabled, the Lab get’s its own mouse cursor. When enabled, only the one mouse cursor from your computer will be visible. |
AutoResize Window | Enabled by Default. Assists with better view and filling the workspace. |
Scaling Mode | (On/Off Toggle) – This setting allows the Window to dynamically fill the screen size provided. Disabled by default as it can cause blurry text. |
Power Sub-Menu
Item | Description |
---|---|
Start | Equivalent of pressing the power button to start a computer. Turns on the Lab environment. |
Shutdown | Equivalent of a quick press of the power button while the computer is turned on. Will attempt to gracefully shut down the lab. Much like using shut down in the Start menu. |
Stop | Hard Stop – Is the equivalent of Pulling the power out of a computer. Can case damage and corruption to the system inside. Stay away from this option. |
Reset | Restarts the Lab in a forceful way. Stay away from this option. |
Suspend | Puts the Lab to sleep, using minimal resources. |
Resume | Brings the Lab back from Sleep to a working state. |
Reload | Restarts the Lab. Like rebooting a computer. |
Special Keys Sub-Menu

This is the CTRL ALT DEL keys, all pushed at the same time. Not likely needed in our current setup, but available none the less. |
